The IOTSWC – IOT Solutions World Congress – is one of the leading events dedicated to digital transformation trends and disruptive technologies. The IOTSWC Testbeds Jury has selected IDSA’s testbed proposal “Offshore Wind Energy Data Space based on IDS Architecture” as one of the testbeds that will be displayed at the congress.

The IOT Solutions World Congress will take place on January 31, 2023 to February 2, 2023, in Barcelona. The testbed we are presenting is based on the PLATOON’s Energy Data Space. Funded by the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 Program, PLATOON defined a common reference architecture, APIs and semantic data models for sovereign data sharing in the energy sector.

Data sharing along the energy supply chain

Wind turbines produce a wealth of data that could be put to good use along the entire wind energy value chain. However, often only wind farm owners and wind turbine manufacturers have access to this data. Other stakeholders in the do not benefit from the value of this data.

This testbed demonstrates how the adoption of the IDS architecture is enabling data sharing along the energy supply chain and how the true value of energy data can be unlocked – through sovereign data sharing. Sensor data (Atten2) from wind turbines and data from the SCADA system of the wind farm owner (Engie) are shared with technology and component suppliers (Tecnalia, Tekniker, VUB) via the testbed.

The testbed includes energy data models and IDS Vocabulary Provider for semantic interoperability, decentralized trust (DAPS), Data analytics as a service via IDS connector, edge computing with the IDS connector in the edge and hybrid digital twins combining physics-based and machine learning models.
