Successful kickoff of CEN/CENELEC JTC 25 data management and data spaces in Brussels

Sep 24, 2024 | News

The kickoff meeting for CEN/CENELEC Joint Technical Committee JTC 25 on Data Management, Dataspaces, Cloud, and Edge recently took place in Brussels, drawing nearly 50 participants from 15 countries across Europe. This strong turnout highlights the broad interest in advancing data sharing standards.

Sebastian Steinbuss, CTO of IDSA, represented the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) at the event. He was elected as the Chair of JTC 25.

During the meeting, the attendees discussed the committee’s structure and established a plan to address the European Commission’s Standardization Request related to the Data Act. The aim is to quickly develop the necessary standards to meet this request. To facilitate this, relevant liaisons were identified to ensure collaborative efforts on common topics and to avoid duplication of work.

Four working groups (WGs) were created to focus on specific areas:

  • WG 1: Advisory Group: This group will support collaboration among members and with relevant stakeholders, particularly the Focus Group on Data, Dataspaces, Cloud, and Edge.
  • WG 2: Dataspaces: This group will address topics specific to dataspace from the Standardization Request related to the Data Act and incorporate the findings from the CWA Trusted Data Transaction.
  • WG 3: Data Management and Data Governance: This group will tackle the remaining topics from the Standardization Request, focusing on DCAT, ontologies, and data management.
  • WG 4: Cloud and Edge: This group will undertake preparatory activities for the anticipated Standardization Request in this area.

This kickoff marks an important step toward enhancing data sharing standards and fostering collaboration across Europe. The next meeting is scheduled for early February 2025, and the working groups are expected to deliver preliminary results by then.
