“Structured training provides a solid foundation for tackling advanced concepts.”

Decoding data spaces can feel like cracking an intricate foreign language. Intimidating? Perhaps. Impossible to learn? Absolutely not. For Davide Cassaro, a project manager at Syxis, the Data Spaces Fundamentals class in Spain offered more than just knowledge; it delivered practical tools and a clear path forward. Here’s how the program helps professionals turn complexity into opportunity.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and how it connects to data spaces?

During my career, I’ve worn many hats, each enriching my understanding of how things connect. I’ve worked in IT for a multinational company, dived into digital marketing and data analysis, and even explored consulting as a freelancer. Now, as a project manager at Syxis, I pull from this diverse toolkit to manage both European and commercial projects. This mix of technical, analytical, and strategic skills is vital for navigating the intricate world of data spaces.

What specific skills or knowledge did you hope to gain from this training, and how do you see it enhancing your work in data space-related projects?

Data spaces are a complex topic – with a very steep learning curve. The sheer volume of information online can feel overwhelming. Structured training provides a solid foundation, making it easier to tackle advanced concepts later on. This kind of organized learning is an excellent support for working effectively on data space projects.

Was your trip to Spain specifically to attend this training, and what motivated you to invest time and resources in this qualification?

If I have the opportunity to choose, I prefer to do trainings and meetings in person. Without detracting from work done remotely, which of course has obvious advantages, I think in some contexts it is still important to meet face-to-face. Besides being fully engaged and focused on the training when done in person, there is also the opportunity to get to know people working on the same issues and with the same interests. In-person events make it easier to take breaks and network. The qualification, in particular, can be helpful in demonstrating that one has done some preparation that warrants knowledge of the topic.

What aspects of the Data Spaces Fundamentals class did you find most valuable?

Well, SQS trainers are very knowledgeable professionals and extremely helpful. During the training, it was possible to interact with them and ask numerous questions where doubts arose. They covered all aspects of the data space, from governance to the more technical elements, even addressing the certification part which I found particularly interesting.

How do you plan to integrate the concepts and insights from the training into your work?

I am already working on projects involving data spaces at both the European community-funded project level, such as SMARTChain and SM4ARTENANCE, and in more commercial activities supporting Holonix, which is the founding partner of Syxis. The concepts learned are essential for drafting documentation, preparing slides, and organizing the various operational aspects of developing these projects. By attending various meetings, I often have the opportunity to better explain the advantages of using a data space. From the interest I hear when this topic is discussed, I am confident that in the future, there will be increasingly more opportunities and a growing need for data spaces among companies.
