Knorr-Bremse: Establishing data sovereignty and data ecosystems in the rail industry

Feb 25, 2020 | News

Towards a Rail Data Space

(Munich / Dortmund, 25.02.2020) Digitalization is both, a driver and enabler of innovative business models. The key resource for this is data and its linkage. IDSA member company Knorr-Bremse is leveraging this innovation potential to create a secure data space for the rail industry: the “Rail Data Space”.

The prerequisite for Innovative business processes and smart services based on data is their simple linkage of data from sources in different companies in data sharing ecosystems – but also the secure data exchange while maintaining data sovereignty. The Rail Data Space does just that: It allows the sovereign management of data assets.

The basis for this is the reference architecture model of the International Data Spaces (IDS-RAM). The IDS-RAM is considered a recognized standard for data sovereignty and an indispensable element of trustworthy data sharing ecosystems. It provides data services that include, for example, anonymization of data, integration and setting “expiration dates” for data use.

On February 25, 2020, Knorr-Bremse is organizing an experience and concept workshop, to launch the Rail Data Space. Basic elements and fundamentals of the IDS reference architecture model and their significance for the rail industry will be discussed, as well as the IDS Connector and relevant use cases. Scenarios, roles and partners for future data ecosystems in the rail industry will be analyzed.
