Eclipse Tractus-X has done its work in one industry. It serves as the technical foundation of the Catena-X Automotive Network, an industrial data space in productive operation. The Tractus-X Accelerator now sets out to make that foundation available to other domains as well.
The implementation phase of the project officially began on 1 September 2026. On 23 September 2026, the kickoff event in Berlin marks the official launch and brings together the consortium, participating partners and interested parties for the first time.
ARENA2036, Catena-X Automotive Network, Fraunhofer ISST and the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) are combining their expertise to strengthen Eclipse Tractus-X as the technological foundation for industrial data spaces and to advance its international development. The three-year project runs from 2026 to 2029 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
What the project sets out to do
The partners describe the ambition in one image. Tractus-X should serve as the “operating system” for productive data spaces. In practice, this means establishing it as an open, stable and industry-grade core infrastructure, configurable and independent of any single domain. It was initially developed in Europe and proven through its deployment in Catena-X. The project now aims to develop it into a cross-domain, international open-source environment with long-term secured funding, covering both the data spaces themselves and the services and applications built on top of them.
The initiative builds on lessons learned from Manufacturing-X. Its stated purpose is a neutral, transparent and trusted solution that delivers value across industries worldwide, supported by an international developer community and a common foundation for interoperable data spaces across all domains.
How the Accelerator works
The Tractus-X Accelerator is a cohort-based support program for projects, developers and organizations. It aims to lower the technical and organizational barriers to entry and focuses on five areas.
- Structured onboarding and qualification of new projects and developers
- Test and development infrastructure
- Targeted mentoring by experienced community members
- Further development of governance, release and quality processes
- Sustainable community and exchange formats
An invitation to contribute
The partners are explicit that this is an ecosystem effort. The kickoff in Berlin aims to network the participating organizations and individuals, align on core content priorities and prepare the next steps. It will also open the discussion on the long-term sustainability of Tractus-X and on how participants can contribute to a strong and growing open-source ecosystem.
