International Data Spaces Certification: building trust in data spaces

May 24, 2022 | News

International Data Spaces (IDS) certification is available now. The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) opened the official process for certifying data space components, with the IDS Connector for data sharing at its core. IDS Certification marks a key milestone towards data sovereignty based on the IDS approach.

To stimulate the certification program and to foster the adoption of IDS concepts on the way to a de facto industry standard, the IDS Certification Award 2022* will grant €20,000 to the first five IDS Concept Review certifications for IDS Connectors. The call for participation will run from May 24, 2022, to June 15, 2022. Applicants will have to fulfill specific requirements and its compliance will be assessed by a committee of experts in the field of data spaces and data sovereignty.

The certification of the IDS Connector is a crucial step towards globally established data spaces based on the IDS standard. It shows that the IDS Connector is technically capable of meeting the highest standards in terms of security and functionality. This will boost trust in cross-industry data sharing ecosystems.

Lars Nagel, CEO of IDSA

IDS Certification at Hanover Fair 2022

Trust is the most important factor in a data sharing. Everyone who shares sensitive, valuable data needs to know that their partners and the technology being used is trustworthy and secure. The establishment of a formal certification scheme makes data spaces relevant and usable across industries.

IDSA will open the official process for certifying the participants’ operational environment and the technology being used in data spaces at Hanover Fair.

*The process of managing the award will be conducted by Digital Hub Management GmbH (“DHM”), a non-profit organization aiming to promote innovation and research and support the transfer of innovative technologies and research results into the economy.
